Women Advancing Microfinance members-only event Th Mar 10

If you're a woman interested in microfinance, I recommend joining Women Advancing Microfinance - the NY Chapter has some great events.  The Microfinance Club of New York also has cool stuff going on, and also (obviously) includes men, but I think the fact that WAM has some smaller group events is nice because you can really get to know people at a 20-40 person event as opposed to a 200 person event.  (Then again, I haven't been to any MFCNY ones so I can't compare, but this is based on what I heard from a friend who's in both.)

Anyway, WAM members get access to some cool things like this site visit below. Check it out!

Greetings!

This site visit is the second in WAM-NY's series of site visits to MFIs in NYC to give WAM-NY members the chance to have an inside view of how each institution operates.

And this time, you will get to visit - and eat lunch at - actual clients in the neighborhood of the Lower East Side People's Federal Credit Union (LESPFCU)!  www.lespeoples.org

LESPFCU is a community development credit union that serves mostly the low- and moderate-income community in the Lower East Side.

All of the clients are women business owners who have their own stories to tell about how they got started and how they have survived the economic hard times over the past few years.

We will be visiting these FIVE local LES businesses:

2. Counter (vegetarian restaurant), www.counternyc.com

4. Johanny Beauty School, http://johannybeautyschool.com

5. Maguey y la Tuna: We will end our tour with lunch at this authentic Mexican restaurant, www.elmagueyylatuna.com

THIS FREE EVENT IS FOR 2011 WAM-NY MEMBERS ONLY.
