Co-Founder of Net Impact Mark Albion webinar Dec. 9, 12 pm EDT (FREE)

I saw Mrim Boutla speak at the StartingBloc All Fellows' Summit in October 2011. In this webinar, co-founder of More than Money Careers and co-founder of Net Impact Mark Albion will be presenting how to create a career that makes a difference.

If you can't make it, do forward this to college students, young professionals, or those with midlife crises that need a kick in the pants.  This is good stuff.

Happy learning!

Tools and guidelines to align your inner self to a meaningful, well-paying career

Mark Albion's annual worldwide free webinar on December 9th at 12 noon EST.

RSVP: www.morethanmoneycareers.com
or click bit.ly/MarkAlbionsAnnual120912

Three key steps: get clear. get connected. get hired.

In fact, you'll learn:
• How to overcome restrictive beliefs to discover the real you.
• How to realize simple steps to implement positive change almost immediately.
• How to create a career you are passionate about with significant social impact.

Dr. Mark Albion was a student, administrator and professor at Harvard for 20 years, after which he co-founded six organizations, including Net Impact.

Most recently, he served for one year in the Office of the President at Babson College. A New York Times Best Selling author, he has written seven books and made over 600 visits to business school campuses on five continents, for which BusinessWeek dubbed him, "the savior of business school souls."

In 2010, he co-found More Than Money Careers LLC, which helps university staff guide students interested in careers with social impact.

In 2011, Dr. Albion co-convened the Founders Circle at Net Impact to help students "work for good."

Nov. 30 History & Future of Money event with WNSF

If you're interested in understanding how money works, why credit in Europe is all messed up, and what might happen to the euro, check out this event.
--Katharine

--------------------

Women's Network for a Sustainable Future:
keynote and conversation with
Bernard Lietaer
co-author of New Money For A New World
As we witness the turmoil in Europe around the single currency and the search for solutions, few people are better equipped than economist, systems thinker and currency designer Bernard Lietaer, to shed light on the crisis and to share his vision for New Money For A New World.
Co-designer and implementer of the convergence mechanism to the Euro, Bernard will be our keynote speaker at an event hosted by the Women's Network for a Sustainable Future and the Earth Institute at 6:30pm on Wednesday evening, November 30, 2011 at the Altschul Auditorium in Columbia University's International Affairs Building.
A long time proponent of currency and money system diversity, Bernard will take us on a journey through the history of money. He will demonstrate how our obsession with single currencies and the monopoly of our centuries old monetary system have fostered instability as well as societal and ecological breakdown.
In advocating diversity both in scale and type in our monetary ecology, Bernard will showcase several innovative solutions, including examples of rethinking money already in play, that can "stop the juggernaut towards global self-destruction."
A monetary expert, Bernard has studied and worked in this field for more than 30 years in an unusually broad range of capacities: as a Central Banker, a fund manager, a university professor, and a consultant to governments in numerous countries, multinational corporations, and community organizations. He served as president of the Electronic Payment System at the National Bank of Belgium (the Belgium Central Bank) and today consults with many Central Banks across the world.
He is the author of The Future of Money, co-author of New Money For A New World (forthcoming from Qiterra Press) with Stefan Belgin and co-author of Creating Human Wealth, published last month which talks about creating motivational currencies at local levels to grow local economies and to create jobs.
This is a timely conversation and should not be missed.
More information on Bernard Lietaer and his works can be found at www.lietaer.com.

Date:
Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM (ET)

I've been asked, how did you do that.... get to where you are?  Or women saying they are the only ones in their department, company.  Another woman asked me, I do all the work and bring in all the sales in the company, grew a division, and am still not promoted.  I'm going to fix that.  I think it’s time for a different approach to getting women there.  More hands on, more actively making each one happen.

A group of women and I are going to do a series around leadership to show HOW it’s done and provide the ongoing support through mentors, support teams, and hands on initiatives to turn them to who they want to be.  And then, provide the women network to open all the doors needed.  We will specifically track promotions.

We're kicking this off next Thursday, 6pm and would love for you to join me and
Joanne Zaiac, President Digitas
Diane Oshin, Group Publisher, Time Inc,
Angela Leaney, former CMO Newsweek
Valia Glytsis, Leadership Expert

We will doing more of these and would love your support for the women and to share your stories.

Nov. 16 Tagai 'birthday party' & fundraiser

A StartingBloc fellow started this mentorship organization bringing together professionals and recently arrived international high school students. Check out Tagai's party in NYC next week!
Katharine
-----------------

We have embarked on our third year of Tagai.  To celebrate this success and look towards the future, we will be hosting a 3rd birthday party on Wednesday, November 16th at the TriBeCa Grand.  Please join us by buying tickets here.  If you can’t join but would like to support our efforts, we really appreciate it and you can do so here.

When Tyler and I started this program, we sought to help international students in New York better acclimate to life in the United States while providing a unique global perspective for young professionals.

Both of us have been incredibly fortunate to befriend people from many countries, all of whom have added fresh perspectives and wonderful ideals to our lives.  We are committed to bringing this same experience to more and more of our peers and fellow New York citizens.

For students we provide positive role models, events that spark curiosity in new areas and help them feel welcome in wider New York City, not just their neighborhood.

For mentors, we facilitate relationships with people they never would have met from places they might know nothing about.  We also help them feel welcome in wider New York City, not just their neighborhood.

Together, we all become closer and better understand diverse perspectives, cultures, and experiences.

We have made a lot of strides since last year including:
·      Grown our program to the following:
o   2 schools
o   42 Mentors
o   45 Students
o   14 Countries represented
·      Submitted our 501c3 application
·      Partnered with New York Needs You to create a college preparation curriculum within Tagai
·      Recruited a truly outstanding advisory board and executive team

All that we have accomplished is thanks to all of the amazing support that we’ve received from all of you.  We hope you will continue to support our efforts as we grow our program and further our mission.

Nov 15 - Financial Sustainability for Social Enterprises + Nonprofits

Check this out!  If you're interested in finding funding as a social enterprise or nonprofit, this workshop is for you.
Happy learning,
Katharine
------------

WORKSHOP 5: NOVEMBER 15th - Generate Revenue: Funding Your Social Enterprise or Nonprofit

The 5th session of our workshops series, Building High Impact Organizations: Creating Financial Sustainability for Social Enterprises and Nonprofits, will focus on how to put together a strategic business plan in order to prepare your enterprise to receive funding.

When you’re in startup mode, it can be a race against time to secure funding. Whether you’re running a social enterprise or a nonprofit, you need money to achieve your mission, to pay staff and to keep the lights on. Before you can secure funding, be it from angel investors, venture capitalists, program officers from foundations or philanthropists, you need a clearly articulated business plan so investors and funders feel confident that you will spend the money you receive wisely. With your plan in hand and a polished pitch, you’ll be ready to approach investors and major donors. The money is out there. The question is, “Are you prepared to receive it?”

Zoravar S. Dhaliwal has an extensive background in finance and holds an M.B.A. from the prestigious Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is the co-founder and CEO of Community Lab, a nonprofit based in New York City that partners with the Earth Institute at Columbia University to advise governments and organizations on sustainable international development and foreign direct investment. http://community-lab.org/

Shana Dressler is the co-founder of the Social Innovators Collective, a dynamic, energetic network of emerging founders, leaders and individuals who work in the social enterprise and nonprofit spaces. Since February 2009, Shana has concentrated on building unique giving communities through the Global Giving Circle and Global Gifts That Matter, an online gift emporium supporting high-impact nonprofits and social enterprises through the sale of gifts and gift donations. http://www.socialinnovatorscollective.org

We are very pleased that Ms. Wilma Longdon, one of the five recipients of the 2010 WAM-NY scholarships, will be joining us for the event.  Wilma Longdon joined WomensTrust in February 2011 as Executive Director stationed in Pokuase, Ghana. WomensTrust is pioneering a unique model of economic development, merging microfinance with support in education and healthcare to give women and their families in poor communities the tools to achieve and maintain true economic independence.

Wilma attended the Sustainable Microenterprise and Development Program (SMDP) in March 2011. The full scholarship from WAM-NY made it possible for Wilma to attend at no cost to WomensTrust, allowing the organization to retain its program funds and channel it into loans for more women.

Join us for a few drinks and bites, and vote to elect your new 2012 WAM NY Steering Committee members!

We look forward to seeing you there!
