You must be living in a bubble to miss the cocktail craze that has swept NYC over the last few years. We personally are very happy to see this trend grow, especially now that it is merging with the microfinance movement. Resolve Network, an organization that provides microfinance loans in the Congo and one of our partners in our bimonthly microfinance happy hour series, is hosting a cocktail lesson fundraiser in Brooklyn on Sunday, June 26, and the Kiva NY Lending Team is invited!
Mixtress Extraordinater, Vijaya "Charlie" Thakur, will hold court on the 3L Rooftop and share with you the illustrious secrets of three Pre-Prohibition Era Classic Cocktails.
25 of you will be the lucky few to sit in on an intimate cocktail seminar and seek the Holy Grail of Imbibers everywhere. You will walk away knowing how to shake and stir with the best of 'em to create a balanced drink perfect for summer sipping, having practiced on three vintage recipes.
One of you will walk away with your very own Cocktail Kit for the Home Bartender in you.
The brandy-soaked cherry on top? All proceeds will be donated to Resolve Network's microfinance program empowering women to start their own small businesses in the Congo. So you can drink with purpose.
Charlie is a member of the Museum of the American Cocktail in New Orleans. She can be seen behind the stick at Raines Law Room, a speakeasy in New York. She was trained in classic and craft cocktails by Derek Brown, owner of the Columbia Room and Head of the DC Craft Bartenders Guild.
