Dec. 4 Wharton Conference on Disaster Relief

Just heard about this from the Columbia SIPA Net Impact email list.  I can't go since I'll be singing in a concert with the Young New Yorker's Chorus in NYC, but you should check this out!
Happy networking,
Katharine

Who: The conference is targeted towards individuals interested in social entrepreneurship and human rights, students, corporate representatives, government officials, entrepreneurs, academics, members of the international relief community and concerned global citizens.

The recent floods in Pakistan, hurricane in New Orleans, earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, tsunami in Indonesia and wildfires in Moscow have ravaged the lives of millions of people. The frequency and magnitude of large scale catastrophic disasters around the world is undeniably increasing. Of the 25 most costly insured catastrophes in the world since 1970, 17 occurred since 2001. As responsible global citizens we must recognize that the likelihood
and consequences of rising probability, high-impact disasters are significant. Due to increasing global interdependencies, we cannot treat humanitarian disasters as country-specific issues that we are not responsible for or affected by.

You are invited to the first ever 2010 Wharton conference on disaster relief: From Haiti to Pakistan: A Year of Disasters. Join this interactive conference where leading corporate and non-profit representatives, entrepreneurs, academics, and members of the international relief community will share their insights on disaster prevention, emergency relief and long term recovery. Representatives from organizations and companies including USAID, Deloitte, Amnesty International, McKinsey, General Electric, U.S. Peace Institute and EcoEnergyFinance will discuss how to assess the risks of large scale disasters and apply disaster response best practices to the current Pakistan floods crisis, and future humanitarian crises. We are thrilled to have Mr. Mark S. Ward, the Director of the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance at USAID deliver keynote remarks. We look forward to
seeing you on December 4th!

Warm Regards,

The From Haiti to Pakistan Conference Team
