The frequency and magnitude of large scale catastrophic disasters around the world is undeniably increasing. Of the 25 most costly insured catastrophes in the world since 1970, 17 occurred since 2001. As responsible global citizens we must recognize that the likelihood
and consequences of rising probability, high-impact disasters are significant. Due to increasing global interdependencies, we cannot treat humanitarian disasters as country-specific issues that we are not responsible for or affected by.
