9:30AM GE: ecomagination challenge announcement Meetup!

In July, GE and four venture capital partners launched a $200 million Challenge to find and fund ideas to build the next generation power grid.  Turns out that all you need is a rich guy with a homegrown particle accelorator that can fashion a big washer into a glowing neon tube.  Power problem: solved.  They'll announce him as the winner in this event, so long as Mickey Rourke doesn't show up.  Don Cheadle?  Seriously?

6PM Mashable Meetup featuring Greg Verdino and Steve Rosenbaum

Equal parts marketer and futurist, Greg Verdino is a recognized expert on marketing innovation, emerging media and Web 2.0.  He's also bald, which means he gets automatic inclusion in this week's newsletter.

Steve Rosenbaum has been working with Curated Content since he created the groundbreaking hit MTV UNfiltered in the pre-web days. Now, as the founder and CEO of Magnify.net, runs a platform company that allows Publishers, Brands, and Web communities to embrace web content with Aggregation, Curation, and user Contributions. He's not quite as bald as Greg, but still gets some points for the brush clearing that's going on upstairs.

6:30PM CodeFree WordPress: Point-and-Click Themes

Whether you're designing a WordPress theme from scratch or modifying an existing one, most of the time you need to know some PHP, HTML or CSS. However, there are a few powerful themes that allow you to point-and-click your way to total customization. In this session we highlight two of these powerful themes and go over their customizable features.  If MacGyver used a CMS, it would definately be WordPress--because you can basically make it into anything.  For a list of problems solved by MacGyver, click here.

Expect Pizza and good tunes powered by Kelley and Jamie's project, http://tu.nr.  Just thinking... what if you showed up and slept at Night Owls.  It would make for a pretty inexpensive hotel ($12/night), and you'd get six hours of sleep.  Just something to think about if you're bootstrapping.
