This Week in New York Innovation

Did you want to go to NY Entrepreneurship Week?  Too expensive?  BAM.  Discount code for 75% off: Special345   Thank you random Plancast update.  Enter the special discount input code on the registration pages and receive 75% off the entire event!!

One of the original 007 Aston Martin DB5's used by Sean Connery was auctioned off for $4.6 million this week.  That leaves me no other choice but to throw in a gratuitious Connery reel for this week.  In other news, this past weekend marked the official end of the Pontiac.  I drove a 2004 Grand Prix GTP when I worked for the GM Private Equity group--long live the trusty Pontiac.  That was a pretty good car.

By the way, if you didn't get an invitation for Tuesday, let me know.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry about it.

Oh, and here's a list of 5 awesome people that you should follow:   Amrit Richmond, Maria Popova, Josh Kushner, Shelly Bernstein, Mollie Chen, and, as a bonus, Brett Martin.

And now, on with the show...

Monday, November 1

6PM Retail + 30: The Future of Retail

A conversation about innovative strategies, companies and business models that are shaping the future of consumer retail experiences.  Hell, anything that eliminates some annoying salesperson asking me if I need help.  Don't they realize this is New York?  Don't talk to me...ever.  No eye contact, either.  That's just creepy.

Jake Nickell, Founder and CSO, Threadless
Katia Beauchamp, Co-Founder, Birch Box
Steven Alan, a native New Yorker and visionary fashion retailer
SuChin Pak, Hester Street Market Co-founder and TV Correspondent
Rachel Shechtman (co-host and Moderator), Founder, Cube Ventures

6:30PM Game Analysis with Alan Gershenfeld and Jeremy Pesner

November's Gaming Meetup will feature interactive talks about how games actually work and what they can do, particularly for educational or socially conscious purposes. Speakers include:

Jeremy Pesner: Freelance game consultant and researcher. Jeremy will draw from examples of simple games to discuss what actually makes games fun to play.  Actually, having Jeremy explain what makes a game fun to play seems like maybe it might take the fund out of it.  "Well, so you see...  the hippos subconsciously represent your mother..."

Alan Gershenfeld: Founder and President of E-Line Media; former Chairman, Games for Change and SVP, Activision Studios. Alan will speak about games for learning, health and social impact and public/private partnerships in game development.

6:30PM TimesOpen 2.0: Real Time Web
