6:30PM Ruby Nuby: Building our website and customized class based on your questions/feedback

The class each week is customized based on who shows up and the questions everyone asks. We have question that range from total beginner to advanced. The classes have been great in that everyone is welcoming of where each is on the path learning.

If you are a newcomer to the class, reading chapters 1-3 of RailsTutorial.org will really help. RailsTutorial.org is the backbone of our curriculum and the basis of questions for many in the class.  It also holds the very meaning of human existence.

6:45PM Hoboken Tech Meetup: Steven Messer - President/Co-Founder World Evolved

7PM Django NYC: Django Deployment Panel

We got our app built, now what? This month, we'll be holding a panel of experienced community members to talk about all things deployment. Fabric, Puppet, Chef, EC2, Clouds, Iron, and every other fancy thing you've heard about for getting and keeping your app up and running will be up for discussion.  <- I think people are starting to make these terms up.  I'm going to start doing that.  "What's your app run?  Yeah, it runs Banana, Snail, and a Linux based version of Hiccup."

6:30 PM Digital DUMBO #21 - Good vs. Evil: BBMG’s Big Brand Showdown

This world is made up of two kinds of brands. First, there are those that are full of sugar and spice and everything nice. They’re amazing to employees. Their visual identities kick ass. They have armies of loyal followers constantly buzzing about them online. And, with everything going on, they still find the time to drive positive social change or help protect the environment. You know…the real goody-goodies.

Then, we have the dirty, rotten, no-good scoundrels. They try to convince you they’re one of the good guys and hope you don’t see through their antics. They’re always making inauthentic claims or trying to boost their image with stick-on cause marketing. They couldn’t engage a consumer to save their own lives. They run and hide at the first whiff of a challenge or crisis. Join BBMG at the Dumbo Loft, where we’ll pit the good brands against the bad brands and only the strong will survive.

6PM Obliterati Spook-a-nanny

Halloween's not till Sunday - but the spookiness of the season will reach its peak on Thursday, Oct. 28th, when New York's most glittering, self-obliterating literati convene their coven at Sweet and Vicious for Obliterati: Spook-a-Nanny.

No costumes are required, though you might feel safer with a disguise, the better to ward off apparitions such as Nick McGlynn, who will swoop in from Los Angeles for the ghoulish occasion.

8PM NWC's Halloween Masquerade Ball

Ditch the Ricky's costume and join us for New Work City's fanciest party ever! Our Masquerade Ball is a formal event, featuring live music from a local jazz trio to break in our appropriately-named ballroom.

This will not be your average tacky Halloween party: no, ghosts, witches or bad costumes. For this evening only, New Work City will be transformed into a mysterious mansion in the countryside. Decor, dress, and lighting will combine to create a rare Halloween party with class.
